The Huskies of Northern Illinois travel to Salt Lake City on Saturday morning to battle the 24th ranked Utah Utes. NIU opened up the season with a home win over Illinois State, marking victory No. 1 for new head coach Thomas Hammock, who returns to his alma mater to lead the Huskies with the same ferocious style of defense that we’ve come to expect over the years.

Event: (325) NO ILLINOIS at (326) UTAH
Sport/League: CFB
Date/Time: September 7, 2019 1PM EDT
Play: Northern Illinois 23.5 (-110)

In that 24-10 victory over Illinois State, however, the offense struggled to gel. The rain and storms throughout the game slowed down the passing of QB Ross Bowers early and left the production to RB Tre Harbison, who picked up 99 yards on 23 carries. A late fumble for TD gave NIU the two-score lead for that win.

Now Northern Illinois takes on a Utah club that opened 2019 with a strong 30-12 road win over rivals BYU. The Utes also got most of their points on the defensive side of the ball with a pair of interceptions for TD’s and a fumble that lead to a Utah rushing score. These two clubs played in DeKalb almost a year to the date, with Utah narrowly escaping in a 17-6 final that was sealed by the Utah late with, you guessed it, a Pick-Six. This game will be another smashmouth battle with points coming at a premium. I like the road team here to use the defense to keep things close. Take the points with Northern Illinois on Saturday.
