Utah State improved from three to six to 11 wins in his last three years at Utah State before taking the Texas Tech job in the offseason. New head coach Gary Anderson has had success here earlier in his career – Utah State won 11 games in his last season as the Aggies head coach back in 2012. But after quitting the Wisconsin job followed by a ‘crash and burn’ at Oregon State, I’m not expecting Anderson’s Aggies to pick up where they left off last December.

Event: (147) UTAH STATE at (148) WAKE FOREST
Sport/League: CFB
Date/Time: August 30, 2019 8PM EDT
Play: WAKE FOREST -5 (-110)

Utah State returns a star QB in Jordan Love. However, Love will be playing behind an offensive line that graduated four starters in the offseason. The Aggies also graduated their top four receivers and a rare NFL draft choice (their only one in the last two seasons) at running back. Throw in a completely rebuilt secondary on defense, new coordinators on both sides of the football and a 2000 mile flight to play this game and it’s easy to understand why Utah State has all the makings of a ‘bet-against’ team Week 1.

Wake Forest played Utah State on this field two years ago, a 46-10 Demon Deacons victory in which they outgained the Aggies 588-267. And make no mistake about it – this Wake program has risen significantly in their six years under Dave Clawson – three consecutive bowl victories after four straight seasons with a losing record. Cheap price to lay with the superior team…. Take Wake.
