Bryce Harper makes his return tonight to face off against the team he played with just five months ago. The Philadelphia Phillies will be at Nationals Park where Harper will go up against Scherzer, one of the best in the game.
Event: (953) Philadelphia Phillies at (954) Washington Nationals
Date/Time: April 2, 2019 7PM EDT
Play: Philadelphia Phillies +173
When Harper was asked what it will be like playing his first game back in his old ballpark, he stated “We’ll see what happens, but I really think it’s going to be mixed.” Harper told reporters of what he expects to hear on Tuesday in the opener of the abbreviated two-game series. “I think I’ll be cheered, I really do. But I think I’ll get booed, too. It’s part of sports, right?” The 2015 National League Most Valuable Player heard resounding cheers-and a few boos (it is Philadelphia, after all) – after belting a pair of homers as the Phillies completed a three-game sweep of Atlanta with a 5-1 victory on Sunday night. Harper will test his mettle agaist a familiar face in three-time Cy Young Award recipient Max Scherzer, who downplayed the significance of squaring off against his former teammate. We’re going to be facing each other a lot. This is just the first,” Scherzer said. “Whatever happens on Tuesday, it’s going to be the course of a career of facing him. This is just round one.”
This pitching matchup has Nationals Max Scherzer going up against Phillies Zach Eflin. Scherzer has been nothing less than spectacular facing the Philadelphia Phillies. He has faced them 17 times and is 9-2 in his career against them with a 2.64 ERA. Scherzer has one game under his belt this season, he was the opening day starter for the Washington Nationals. Although very difficult to do he took the loss to the NY Mets 2-0. He pitched 7.2 innings giving up just 2 hits, walking 3 while striking out 12. He gave up a first inning home run to Robinson Cano which was the offense for the Mets. Scherzer happened to face the Mets best pitcher and some would argue the best in the game, Jacob deGrom. This game does not pose the same quality of pitching that the Mets game did. Zach Eflin in 2018 appeared in 24 games winning 11 and losing 8, sporting a 4.36 ERA while pitching 128 innings giving up 130 hits, striking out 123 and walking 37. His last two outings against the Washington Nationals were not stellar. On August 22, 2018, Eflin pitched just 3.1 innings and gave up 10 hits and 4 earned runs. His next outing was just five days later where he took the loss 5-3 against the Nationals again, pitching 5.1 innings and giving up 3 earned runs. The last game he pitched which was last season on September 24th against Colorado where he took the loss, 10-1.
The Phillies are 3-0 and have a wOBA of 392 which is ranking them 4th in major league baseball. The Phillies opened the season sweeping the Atlanta Braves, 5-1, 8-6 and 10-4 putting up a total of 23 runs in 3 games. The Nationals were shut out against deGrom and went on to put 8 runs up against Syndergaard and their lone victory agains the Mets came against Wheeler. In the first three games this season, Washington’s bullpen has a 12.27 ERA and a WHIP of 2.59.
Obviously, this is a pitching mismatch, but the line makes up for it with the value that you are getting with the Phillies. I believe that the Philadelphia Phillies are worth a bet at this price considering the line value and the current form of each team.
Tuesday Night West Coast Throttle
Eddie is UNDEFEATED in major league baseball. His Tuesday night MLB play is another very strong play.
