Premier League Free Pick: Brighton at Manchester United

This is a big revenge spot for Manchester United in the Premier League. They lost 2-3 at Brighton in their first road game of the year which really was the first sign of trouble in the clubhouse. We all know the story now of their bad run thru most of the first half of the season that ultimately led to the firing of their manager, Josie Mourinho. Now with new manager Ole Gunnar Skolsjaer, they have rallied off six straight wins which is a record for a United manager to win their first six games. They really weren’t tested though in their first five games but earned an impressive 1-0 win at Tottenham this past weekend.

Event: Brighton at Manchester United
Date/Time: January 19, 2019 10AM EST
Play: Manchester United -1.5 (-110)

I did not get to see the first half but was able to catch all of the 2nd half and United was certainly not the better team. Tottenham was great with the ball, pushing forward creating chance after chance and if not for an unreal game by United’s keeper, De Gea, they could have easily lost that game. Tottenham got an amazing 11 shots on goal all in the 2nd half and De Gea had to make some incredible saves to keep them out. Listen, a win is a win, I get it, but that game showed United still has a big weakness on the defensive side of the ball which will come to haunt them when they face Man City, Liverpool and definitely in the Champions League.

But Brighton is not on any level close to those elite teams. They are #13 in the table with 7 wins, 5 draws and 10 losses this season. On the road they have been pretty bad, with just 2 wins, 2 draws and 7 losses and have been doubled in score, scoring just 9 while conceding 18.

United won by at least 2 in each of those first five games against weaker competition and coming back home after that huge win against Tottenham, and combined with the fact that they lost at Brighton this season, I think they will bring a lot of energy and come out fast in this game.
